Remaking my entire building system... Again! - Mini Golf Tycoon Devlog #14
Hey there!
It sure has been a while since the last update for MGT. I have been working on a lot of things, like finishing middle school and working on my 150 sub special. But I must say, this is probably the biggest update yet.
I remade my entire building system yet again (this is not the first time!) because of a sudden realization I had one day in English class. If you haven’t watched my previous videos, I started off with a piece-based system and move to a spline-based one. I originally changed it because of a physics bug, which of course was actually worse with the spline system. After I found the actual fix, I kept the splines anyway. And honestly, they sucked. Every time I playtested or watched another person play the game, the same three designs were made every time. Whether it was because of a lack of creativity, time, or just not knowing how to make anything else, it was boring. No variation in things you could make. It actually limited creativity, which was not what I thought when making it. And also there was no way to cap off your holes at the end other than a hedge.

Here are the official change notes:
ADDITIONS
- NEW(kinda) BUILDING SYSTEM
- Reverted the building system to the original one from the first few devlogs, with some changes like mesh combining and an “edit” mode.
- Added back the original pieces, and some more.
- New song: Awaken
- New song: Fore!
- New song: Miris Cithara
- Added some slight fog
- Ambient occlusion - it makes shadows and things look nicer, and adds definition to the models. Some things will look off up close.
- New speed control buttons on the toolbar
CHANGES
- The Main Menu theme changed to Awaken
- Changed the file extension of the save files from .es3 to .mgt
- The props like the windmill are now in the decorate menu.
- Changed the min-height for the main camera.
- Removed the nonexistent manage tab from the toolbar
- Tweaked some power values in the Golf AI
- Changed the golf cam a bit
- Increased max hit force of player golfing
- Added shadow cascading for higher quality shadows up close
FIXES
- Fixed some issues with the saving
- Fixed some offset issues with AI golfing
- Fixed the tunnel system a bit because it sucked
These are all the changes (I think)!
This is also the last DEMO update for the game other than bug fixes! The game is going on Steam soon, with much more content and systems! Thank you all for being so supportive of the game and leaving feedback. I hope this game continues to grow along with my community.
